International Medical School Main Campus, Malaysia

MSU developed a five year medical course of three phases through its International Medical School (IMS). The Phase I consist of Year 1, Phase II consist of Year 2 whilst Phase III consists of Year 3,4 & 5 respectively. Both Phase I and II are delivered through system-based modules. The Phase III is conducted through discipline-based postings i.e Medicine, Surgery, Obstetric & Gynecology, Paediatric, Psychiatry, Primary Care, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine and short postings . The Year 1 and Year 2 focuses into basic medical sciences. The year 3 focuses on Introduction to Basic Clinical Skills and knowledge, the Year 4 introduces different Specialties and the Year 5 concentrates on consolidation of the clinical skills and knowledge. Year 1 and 2 are divided into 2 semester. Eleven modules will be covered in Year 1 and ten modules for Year 2. A module on Ethics and Medical Jurisprudence, Radiology and Community Medicine are delivered horizontally throughout the year of study.

The MBBS curriculum is built according to Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) guidelines and approved by MMC. The MBBS programme presents a continually expanding level of medical experiences. In the early years of study, the basic medical sciences are taught in the context relevant to patient care. Later in the course, clinical teaching builds upon and reinforces this strong scientific foundation. An emphasis on clinical communication skills and early clinical contact visit to medical practices, community care facilities and hospitals, is a feature of MSU MBBS course.

The teaching learning approaches emphasis to student centered and methods used includes small group teaching, self-directed learning, case-based learning, bed site teaching, continuous medical education, Clinico-pathological Conference, seminar, lecture and tutorial. MSU focuses to produce a good medical doctor not only excellent in academic but in soft skill as well. The MBBS students of MSU are also encourage to involve in various Community Services to contribute to society.

Admission to the MBBS Programme

  1. Students enrollments will be handled by the Registrar’s department of MSU. The complete application package is available through this office. Application with suitable passes in the science subjects (physics, chemistry and biology) will be considered for eligibility. Proficiency in the English language and a good state of health are required of all applicants.

  2. The academic term starts in April and October.

  3. Boarding, lodging and other miscellaneous expenses are the expenses are the responsibility of the students. MSU will provide assistance to students who require accommodation. Enquiries on accomodation should be made at least two month prior to enrolment.
